Would they pollinate each other and spoil the crop, if so what sort of distance would they need from others to prevent this? I suppose this should have occurred to me before I sowed them

You could hand pollinate them with a paint brush, That should help stop cross pollination. I suppose you'd have to be there when the flowers open though...

Even with saved seed sleepy? No, I always used new seed. I did use saved seed for little gem squashes.

I think I worded that wrong, what I was asking was could I save the seed But I think youve answered that one too. I bought the seeds at KH park on the organic stand, a good day despite missing you all......I think I actually sat within feet of you when you had your wine but didnt know it was you.....

Hi Sweetleaf. They will probably cross pollinate and you could save the seeds and set aside a patch somewhere to see what kind of fruit you get the next season. We did that with squash one year. Melons will cross pollinate too. The fruit we got from the cross pollinated seed was ghastly tasting! But .... it was something to do!

We might have the right kind of weather this year for Melons, if I could water them enough. I just heard it was the hottest driest April in the UK since records began in the 16th century, and its not going to get better. I have to water my allotment (UK term for a rented Veg patch) already, unheard of, in my area in Apri/ May.
