Here are my 2 pink ones LG. The top one was dug up out of our old garden and moved here - it is now 6ft tall and didn't ever seem to notice that it had been moved. The bottom camellia was new last year and is a bit of a softer pink.

Jasmine those are both such lovely colours and plenty more to come from the looks of things. You did well to have them transplated without any problems. Maggy yours is also a lovely photo, I'd really like to have a camelia in my garden but it would'nt like my soil. I'd have to have it in yet another pot.

I was amazed too LG - I thought at least we'd have a couple of flowerless years while it had a sulk.

LadyG my soil is Alkaline!! its clay I have top dressed with ericasious a couple of inches and I feed it with a rhodedendron feed! I also have two rhoda,s in my border and a couple of azaleas!! I think as long as you line the hole with ericasious your alright. And Tulip has a couple in pots which are always lovely.

We have two camelias, both are in pots in ericaceous compost, one we have had for a long time, it gets loads of buds on it every year, but this year the leaves started going yellow. We went to the G.C. and the man there said it needed feeding which we have done. My dad had a camelia in the ground in his garden, it looked healthy but never flowered, he has just moved it into a pot in ericaceous compost to see if he can get it to flower. I know that they need watering a lot in the summer in order to flower the next season. My husband does prune our older camelia but not too much.

Forget to say Jasmine those flowers look lovely on your camelia, our older camelia is pink but the flowers aren't as nice as those.

Lots of good advice Maggie and Tulip. I have clay soil but also a very small garden. I might one day grow one in a tub but at the moment, I don't even have room for another one of those. Honestly every spare inch is covered with something.

There is a beautiful tree size Camila in a back garden that backs onto the nearby park, its full of blooms. My nan has a nice size one in her back garden, is it possible to grow one from a cutting d'you think?

Emseypop I've had a quick look in my book it says camelias can be "propagated by semi-ripe or hardwood cuttings from early winter or by grafting in late winter or early spring". It also says it grows well in containers or against a wall in semi shade spots. Well drained neutral to acid soil is essential. Prune to shape after flowering. I hope this helps you. (What would I do without my book)?

Oh dear my soil isnt good then - I think best to "add" something to it - I go on and on doing this with all my borders - its hard work It is in semi shade against a fence tho I have a book with a couple of pages on plants that thrive in clay soil - I think it would be wise to buy up a lot of these

Is that Camellia Margaret Davis Jenny? I bought one a few years ago - it is supposed to be white with pinky/red tinges on the edge of the petals but mine has always had plain white flowers.
