Have to get back to you when I sort out my tin....
I was thinking (oOo) it doesn't really matter if we don't all grow exactly the same variety, as long as we log where we got the seed from, what variety it is etc....I know in a proper trial we all grow exactly the same type, but as all of us have different gardens etc it's not a scientific trial. So we could agree to grow a particular type of veg such as leeks or carrots...but each choose our own variety...then compare results.
It doesn't really matter if we turn out to use the same supplier and seed tho...lets be flexible ;D
(as the actress said to the bishop...)

My soil is different, and I have very different conditions, etc. It wouldnt be very scientific youre right. We should have similar methods of recording though.

what about leeks-or are they too boring? Debi and want to try some next year and I saw cheery wants to try some, but I bet 4p will be sick of the sight of them. We could be adventurous and try some yams in a tub, saw that on TV somewhere I love leeks - I could never be bored with them, although I may slightly get fed up with smelling of them....leeks are WONDROUS things - easy to grow, very few problemsor pests and they grow through the winter - the Stirling Albion of vegetables.....

Mexican sunflowers, I do like the sound of those too......just a suggestion. We have so many suggestions Im going to leave the final choices to Cheery. Only fair, as she started the thread. I dont expect any objections.

I dont expect any objections. Mexican sunflowers, that's a good idea as they would be good for the back of a border for those people short of space. I am trying to grow Gerberas this year - my plant partner grew some to sell which were beautiful and unusual shades of pink and orange - I would like to grow some of the large flowered ones you see in bouquets. As you say, I am quite happy to let Cheery choose.

I'm not fussy...but the general view seems to be leaning towards the following:-
1. Vegetables (outdoor)
Leeks Carrots Beetroot Chili Parsnips
2. Flowers
Gerberas Mexican Sunflowers British Native wild flowers.(I'll leave the experts to suggest varieties) Sweetpeas Dahlias
I suggest we also have a GH category for cucumbers, tomatoes etc..I am having a go at cape gooseberries and pepino as well.
If you'd like to add to the list...then we'll have a vote...or we can just pick what we want from the list. Remember to record variety, supplier, compost, % germination etc. Instead of having 'Sweetleaf's Trials' 4P's trials' etc we'll have an individual thread for each veg/flower type if that's OK...'Gerbera Trial Thread' etc...whoever sows first can start it...is that OK?...unless anyone has a better idea.
