Pop them into a plastic bag with a little water in it, seal it and put it into the airing cupboard.
Works every time.

I will too but I haven't eaten the avocado yet! I shall try Mick's way also as I have grown one the other way - years ago though. I love avocado...yum. And it's very good for you.

And here is where I admit that I have only ever succeeded with this once......I still have the plant though, it's quite big now..... most attempts went mouldy very quickly....

I did shove an avocado stone in a bit of compost in a pot a few years ago....... It took several months to germinate but then it grew and grew...into a lovely leafy stick!...in the end I composted it. No chance of any avocados on it in this country (unless you have a Kew like temperate house!) but it did make an interesting house plant.

Mines in the compost, it rotted straight away.

Just for a bit of encouragement, "here's one I did earlier", about a month ago. Don't give up, but don't impale it either - just gently prick sticks in to hold in place. I put mine in the top of a 'single rose' vase without sticks. The leaves are very big

I have a confession...I have left my Avocado plant out to get frosted and die......guilt! I have decided that it is just going to get bigger and bigger but not actually do much to earn its place in the crowded conservatory.....so I'm afraid it's a quick death by frost and then a nice long rot in the compost.......sorry....
