Gosh...where are you all? I wonder how many of you are gardening? I have been really diligent this morning - I potted up 12 big pots with red Tulips, 2 different lots of dark purple Tulips, some lovely Daffodils I haven't grown before called Sun Disc and some Freesias, the same type in each pot, not all jumbled up. Then I went out and cleared some areas of the flower garden and sank the pots into the ground in the bits I've managed to get looking reasonable (for me). Hopefully I will have a bit of brightness in the general mess next Spring..... I had a go at laying a bit more path but it was far too wet. OH seems to have lost interest in laying the rest...typical! Now I am off to work for a couple of hours......... I took a leaf out of your book 4pygmies and planted my tulips in tubs and dotted them around the garden yesterday! Not sunken more heavily resting! Ran out of compost for the last variety, will sort them the weekend. You could just use some decent soil from your garden, BM.

Wet or forzen clay it is! Thanks Keith, I do have some in the bottom corner though I could probably use

We need to harvest the cabbage that are in the garden as well as put some sort of protection around the Sequoia and the Giant Redwood trees. They are less than 10 years old and I think they need to be protected again from the dehydrating winds of our winters. This weekend we'll get that done.

How tall are the trees, C3D?

The Sequoia is more than 6 ft. tall and the Giant Redwood, who isn't so giant, is about 4 ft. tall. Both were planted on Sept. 18, 2001 and both were ~maybe~ 10 inches tall. The Redwood was munched by bunnies, run over with the lawn mower several times accidently ... he's had a rough start but last year and this year no harm has come to him and he's growing well and happy.

So you don't need too much fleece then, to protect them! When I first saw the names of the trees I had this image of two towering magnificent beasts heading skywards! But they're only babies atm, I suppose later on they'll be strong enough to take care of themselves in the wind. Lucky you, having them in your garden. How's the new one getting on, the one from the GC?

They are just babies but growing well and strong! The variegated pine seems to be OK, so far. Maybe we should stake some supports for him before the evil winter winds strike? Didn't take in the cabbage yet. : Got busy (how unusual!) otherwise. We'll try tomorrow ..... Prolly while it is raining.

We have a Dawn Redwood. It loses the needles every autumn and looks like it has died and then comes back to life every spring! *Very* unusual. We were not sure if the Sequoia or the Giant Redwood could survive here but .... so far they have done well. Maybe because we have protected them every winter?

I planted a sequoia on my allotment many years ago (about 15). I haven't been back to see if it is still there, but it was doing well for the 2 or 3 yeras that I was still there.
