It's been a bit of a disaster year for my Hostas. Despite my best efforts the slugs and snails have triumphed generally.
I have 5 different varieties - 4 I got from the RHS and one, Fire and Ice I bought at the Hampton Court Show a couple of years ago. Fire and Ice I can strongly recommend - small, beautiful green and white, huge flowers and about as slug and snail resistant as any.
One of the RHS plants (lost the name) has beautiful leaves in shades of green, yellow, grey and look as if they have been painted. But the s&s make a beeline for it and it was so bad I cut off every leaf about 3 weeks ago. They are now growing back and look beautiful - not a hole in them.
Three are in pots, two are in the ground and they look like old lace curtains now - I've given up on them for this year.

I have a couple of hostas that Sweetie gave me. They are in full flower and doing very well. I think it's the sunshine I get here!

Friends have given me quite a few young hostas which I managed to plant out last weekend, I'm not sure of the varieties though.

I think it's the fact that your garden is very very damp at the moment..........that night time only rain you get is soo handy... I cannot grow them. It's such a shame - it's far too dry and sandy for them.......

I have soooo many pots though....................................................it's getting so I don't have anything but weeds in the actual flower beds and my plants are crammed onto my patio cos I insist on having things which can't/won't survive in the ground....... .. silly, innit.....?
