From this picture, want to ask a question. We want to move the fence out a bit and make it a taller one. We live in a cul de sac, so does this fence have to be no higher than a metre, due to it's 'facing' a road? Keith

I can see a fairly high wall at the end there, Keith. No reason why you can't go as high as that I'd have thought.

Not even low flying ones...? Actually make a quick phone call to your planning department. I'm sure they could tell you straightaway.

I have an eight foot (at least) box hedge around my garden, its not covered by fence height regs, I think last time I looked you have to ask local authorities and/or check your lease, for fencing, as some estates have their own regs mine states front fences should not exceed four feet, but they say nothing about hedges except for that they should be kept tidy.

Our Planning Dept at our council were great in helping us out about how high we could plant to get some privacy from our obsessive neighbours(obsessed by us and what we were doing in the garden). They were really sympathetic and very helpful, so try them first. I would have thought that you could do what you liked as far as gates are concerned, within reason.

Thanks everyone. Maybe a call to the council is the answer. May also give the local airport a ring, eh Sleepy?? Keith

I'd call the council, as already suggested. I rang with queries about our porch because we were told we didn't need planning permission for various reasons, and they were incredibly helpful. Good luck.
