COOEE! I just emailed you. Watch your back! Hasn't it been a lovely day? My Sweet Peas don't look very well......never mind. I'm rubbish at growing them anyway! They always go to seed really quickly. Where are you going to put yours?

Goodness knows...but I'll find a space! you know me....I was going to sow my morning glories too but will wait a bit longer...I think that with climbers they need to be a certain height (or is it length?) before they start flowering...maybe next weekend.

I have only sown the cactus seeds so far (all 72 varieties - went a bit overboard this year) and will start on Toms next week.
I used to grow the Sweet Peas in the greenhouse then transfer to the big pots that I have for them but for the last 3 years I have sown them directly into the outside pots so they don't have to be moved. That worked fine until last year when they refused to develop when we had that heatwave. I'll try that method again this year though.
I also grew Morning Glory 3 years ago and planted them against my trellis. Seedlings still pop up out of the ground though. wonder if there will be any this year?

Ah I love Morning Glory! They were really late into flower last year which I was presume was because of the heat but they were fantastic once they got going. I am going to try to concentrate on early flowering or Autumn flowering this year. Last summer excessive heat stopped me and my veggies and flowers getting anywhere for weeks so I'm working on the assumption it will be the same or worse this time. I just wilt in the full blown summer so I bide my time and wait for the Autumn.... quick maturing veggies and September flowers. That's the plan anyway

Love the dancer Sweetleaf! My Petunias are now sprouting, they are in a seedtray with a lid on the kitchen windowsill but would you believe it, I found slug trails even in there yesterday! Not too much harm done though.

Oh I don't grow veg any more Sweetie. There is only me doing the cooking, so it's not worth it. The veg would be given away or rot away. I just grow toms now.

That's right.
And you will have lots of failures. But lots of successes too.
My biggest failure was peas.
But the sweetcorn! Mmmmmm. Worth having an allotment just to grow that.
And I had wonderful success with spaghetti marrows.
I had so many redcurrants one year I sold 20 lb to a local greengrocer at £1/lb

My biggest failure was Cabbages not growing them this year...or any member of the Brassica family, Club root. Karen, have you a list of questions to ask when you go to the plot? Heres an answer I gave on the beeb to someone who was getting a new plot Ask a lot of questions! Are there any problems with security Are there any facilities.shop, toilets. manure deliveries rubbish collection etc Are you allowed a shed/greenhouse, glass or plastic? Water... is there any? Wheres the tap in relation to your plot. was there a hosepipe ban last year, will there be one this year? How much will it cost to rent, whens it due? Is there club root on the site, what other diseases have been reported Will they rotavate for you (I wouldnt if I were you) Are there any other regs you need to know about, some are only allowed to plant annuals (I can plant trees if I want!) Im sure others will think of more ;D

Just dont let anyone rotovate it Karen, its not a good idea if theres couch grass or a long list of other weeds which propagate by root cuttings, youll make a rod for your own back if you do

I can do Broccoli though Guess what I found in the seeds in the bathroom? ASH! OH has flicked ash onto my Helenium seedlings. Triple HUMPH with knobs on. Grr.........MEN!

My Morning Glory have all come up now bar 2. They grow amazingly quickly so I hope the predicted cold spell doesn't do for them in the conservatory....lots of French Parsley and Curly Parsley up now too. The second batch of Meteor Peas look good. I am determined to do them right this year - quick and early to beat the heat. I love peas straight from the pod, never bother to cook them...I haven't sown anything this weekend as I am waiting to see how cold it gets and for how long it looks likely to stay that way......
