That the bark of the Sycamore supports more types of lichen than any other tree?

No, didn't know that Plocket, but it's one of those facts that sinks into the grey matter and that I 'll probably remember forever now.

I HATE sycamores but only now that I've got four just outside my garden wall. Grrrrr! But the seeds are fun

I could never hate a tree....just the stupid people who plant them in silly places. I have an oak tree in a pot grown from an acorn...I want to return it the wild...dunno where tho

Cheery you are absolutely right - I shouldn't hate trees. In fact I don't hate trees but I'm annoyed by the ones outside our garden wall ;D
Have you got a nice bit of woodland nearby where you walk? How big is your little oak tree now?

Talking of oak trees I saw something amazing yesterday - we were walking around the sub tropical gardens a short drive away from us and spotted this huge oak tree covered in moss and (I think) lichens and looking up to the top branches saw LOADS of ferns, big ferns, growing between the trunk and branches. I've never seen that before.

WOW that is incredible! It does look just like something out of a fairytale. Do you remember that King Arthur film where a lot of it was in an ancient wood - it reminds me of that film. The chap who played Merlin had a silver metal cap thing on I seem to recall.
