Well I planted some as Ive not done salad for years as outside the slugs and birds always get it but Ive planted some in a largish box in the greenhouse and they have just poked though I dont know if they will survive this cold though. I thought well if anyone else has a go we could compare.

You can sow them at any time Ali and just keep pulling the leaves as you need them ! apparently! they do say a window box even and outside now so no excuse to no greenhouse!

I scattered some in a in a planter outside yesterday, I found some seeds in my box so I thought I would use them. Will let you know how they go. It isn't a huge pot but then there is only the two of us anyway so didn't want masses (I live in hope!)

Some people grow them outside in window boxes B.M. I was going to stand mine outside now but I have a feeling the birds will eat them!

I vaguely remember putting some in the planter last year and they were quite successful, I think this packet was one I had from GW.

I'm doing my baby salad leaves in an old sandpit of the kids this year, its on legs and in the hens area, so I'm hoping the slugs will be few. Its quite big so I'm doing spring onions, spinach beet and beetroot in it too.

Mine have germinated, there are quite a few little green shoots there. I just scattered them in a trough (15.03) and then left them outside.

I've been eating leaves these past few months now and growing them outside on the sheltered part of the windowledge. A nice mixture they are niche mixed from T&M sowed in october last year and still going strong. They germinated in about a week.

Go for it Ali. I planted mixed salad and a few other things in the kids old sandpit a few weeks ago, i did nice neat vertical lines and labels each row, went up the garden a few days later and 'someone' had scored horizontal lines in the soil with a trowel, and watered them with the big watering can with no rose on Things are coming up, but I've no idea what is where. The hens also managed to knock over a massive pot with carrot seeds in too.

Mine are now getting a second lot of leaves - still too little to pick though.
