Hi Keith. No. I doubt very much we will go there again ... unless we cannot find something we need at another garden center / nursery. If we purchase from them again, we will take OUR purchase home, right there and then! At the *very* least, the man could have said that ~maybe~ something happened but he thought it was our tree. He did not. I am, to say the least ... disappointed. But ... If that is the least of my troubles then I am truly blessed! ;D Thanks to everyone for your considerate suggestions and taking the time to even bother with this problem. Thank you all! Me

It's horrible being disappointed in someone when you think you know them, isn't it? What a shame! At least the ball's in your court now Lydia - it's your choice whether you give them your custom again or whether you don't. But you found out what had happened, which was gnawing away at you, and in a very subtle and dignified way - I hope you made him really bad.

At least, let's hope that he thinks twice, next time it happens. I was always brought up to tell the truth, as the opposite always comes back to bite you.

When we first arrived we looked through the nursery stock. There were no 'Golden Ghost' trees left. After speaking to Mrs. Steve, I was satisfied that our theory was right. She verified it wasn't our tree and maybe the tags were switched. I honestly do not think they had anything to do with it. Other staff or even customers can easily move tags around. By the time Steve entered the office, I had decided to chicken out and not even bring up the switch. But .... was soooo pleased his wife brought up the subject and fired off very pointed questions and comments about the situation in a manner I would never have attempted with Steve. (Some random person I did not know ... yes I would have nailed him to the wall ... but not someone I knew as a friend.) He may have initially thought it was our tree just because it had our tag on it but .... I'm sure he knew there was a switch somewhere along the line and he needed to plant whatever he had available. Then his Mrs. cornered him and he made the decision to try to cover up what happened and quickly changed the subject to how nice our other trees look ... Your Sequoia really grew in the last year! ...No point to try to argue over what cannot be changed however he knows that we know this wasn't *quite* right. Wonder what the conversation between him and his Mrs. was after we left?!?!? Ohhhh to be a fly on the wall.

Is Steve still a friend, C3D? Friends shouldn't lie like this. How would you have taken it, if he had said, 'Sorry someone came in and wanted your tree and offered me x amount of money for it'. 'We are struggling here with this credit crunch and didn't want to say no, so I'm sorry if we misled you in anyway!' I still would have been annoyed, but at least I would have known the truth. Oh, how about that photo you promised us?

Is Steve still a friend, C3D? Friends shouldn't lie like this..... Oh, how about that photo you promised us? Yes. I believe Steve is still a friend. I do not yet know the full circumstances of why he lied so (stoopid me) I give him the benefit of the doubt for now. ((You REALLY need to know me to understand my thinking.)) A picture? I'll post one Wednesday. I leave when it is dark and come home when it is dark. Supposedly Wednesday I have off from work.

That's really lovely, and looks very happy growing there. Maybe it's fate that you ended up with this one and not the other one.

Well I hope he thought it was worth loosing the trust of a good customer C3Ds I wouldnt be buying anything from him again if I was you! and I think his kindness was a cover to get rid of a second, if they had just delivered it you might have sent it back, by planting it for you he thinks you wouldnt (Well I Would)!!!

It's a lovely tree although I can see what you mean about it being slightly one-sided in it's growth. Time will probably sort it out but it may be worth seeing if you can prune it in the spring to get a more uniform growth.

Our tree was soooo perfect! This is a "Charlie Brown" tree. We named him Charlie! ;D
According to the tag this is a very slow growing tree and will be 6' tall by 4' wide in 10 years. The tree is hardy to -40 C.
