I didn't know what to expect from these Mick, never having seen any, well not that I remember. It's pretty but I'm not sure............probably need to see some for real.
Pretty though and in the right place...............

The old name for them was "Hottentot's backside".
Can you guess why?

I'm going to try next Spring...one of those plants I keep meaning to grow..... 4P, you can often find them in garden centres. You can get them now but don't water. I'll tell you when. They only need frost free conditions but they do need max light.

Are they easy to grow from seed Mick or is it better to buy plants. I rather like them. ;D

They only need frost free conditions but they do need max light. Would a north facing kitchen window be too little light? I have limited frost free space here....not many window sills pointing sun side unfortunately. The conservatory will be too cold I think - the dratted heater has broken...I'm going to have to wrap fleece over all the other cacti when it's really cold now...

They aren't difficult FC but take a few years to get to flowering size. I have some 2 year old seedlngs at present of ones that are difficult to find. One is coloured pinky-red.
If you buy plants you are already there provided, as I have said before, you follow certain rules.

I suspected they might take a while to flower.

I bought some seeds from eBay last year, they came from Spain but wer'nt packaged very well, ( no excuse) and I left them too long, they sort of seeped into the paper they arrived in.

North facing is no good. As I say, they only need to be frost free.

Lithops do not remain LIVING stones under my care for long. Tried different species, different windows, different times of the year .... I vowed to not sentence any more to death and leave them at the garden centers for other people to enjoy.

Make sure you get Lithops - they're easiest.

I'll kill them, Mr. C. ! Faster than I can kill an ivy I tell you! Faster than a dead aloe! :

Well heck! Orchids grow like weeds. Hard to kill them! The precious little Lithops .... I get goosebumps at the thought of bringing them here. I'm sure they too scream when they see me walk by in the nursery! I dunno about buying another one. Makes me sad just to think about his fate. ;D

OK. Here's what you do:-
buy one (or more), put it in the sunniest, coolest (frost free) spot. Leave it alone uintil spring. No water. I'll tell you what to do then.
