Hobbies as a child.. I used to spend quite a lot of time, wildlife watching. Never would have guessed that, would you?? ;D You would either find me over the heath with my dog, birdwatching or if it was early or late enough, I would be over at the large badger sett near us, without dog ( ). I can still remember my first sighting, to this day. There was one at first, then three appeared! It didn't happen the first time I went, but then that wasn't surprising was it? On most sundays, I would go on a long bike ride with a friend of mine, packed lunch in hand, though my binoculars always went with me! ;D I did a fair amount of drawing as a kid, but nothing special and mostly copied from books. After I went on RSPCA and RSPB courses, my wildlife watching got addictive/obsessive even, to a point that girls would never enter my mind. My homework never suffered, well don't think it did anyway! When I got about 15, I got into bodybuilding and bought some weights to put on a home made bar. I then went with another friend, down to the RAF Gym, as his Dad worked there and got a pass for me to go there with his son. We even had the RAF trainer, helping us use the equipment. When I started working, I bought protein shakes and better weights. So I suppose wildlife and fitness were my hobbies, with the odd book reading thrown in, for good measure.

I had loads of hobbies as a child--I flitted from one thing to another--like a butterfly! But now I have more time this is what I do- I play the keyboards (for parties/Care homes/hospitals/ and any one who wants to Book me) I do this on a Voluntary basis now I have retired. I am learning to play (self taught) the Guitar/Piano Accordion (much to my neighbours annoyance ;D) I paint in Watercolor and Oils/Draw--Sketch and generally mess around. This is mainly during the winter months when I cant get out into the garden. I like Reading Autobiographies and anything Historical or Factual. I used to "Press Flowers" and make Cards or Pictures with them. I like doing the daily Crossword ( in our Northern Echo) My OH and I do this together and try to finish it before bedtime.

As a child I liked anything that didnt cost much like Biggs I was one of a big family 6 girls and 2 boys, I was a very good swimmer and was forever at the local swimming baths I also used to win a doll nearlly every year for running at the ICI yearlly Fete. Roller skating I loved and a crowd of use used to skate the length of a duel carraigeway where I lived all joining hands!! ( you couldnt do that to-day) there was very little traffic then only a few had cars! people like the Headmaster and Doctor!. When I had Children I used to knit all there jumpers and make a lot of their clothes, and I was forever painting and decorating, later on when they where all at school I went o cake decorating classess and made all four wedding cakes, and numerous christerning and birthday cakes, now I hate the mess it makes and my hand isnt as steady as it was so I dont do it now. Woops!! Ive just realised Ive gone off thread ;D Im not a child anymore

I collected stamps, made models, read an awful lot, belonged to a chess club, swam pretty well, for the school and then for the district.... almost for the county. I had my own little veg garden from when I was very small and I worked on Daddies allotment. I was very interested in my school work, and studied hard, I liked saving, and collecting old coins too. I was interested in learning about Chemistry, till I set fire to Dads shed. : I loved music, belonged to a choir and performed with them at the Town Hall, I tried on numerous occasions to learn to play an instrument, but the school couldnt keep up the funding for the tutors and they always left. Result? I can probably still play BAGABBB on four or five different instruments.

I sang in the Junior and the Senior choirs at school as well ...and the village church choir for a time. In the Lower 6th I learned to play guitar a bit. I took music O'Level, but only because I was desperately trying to impress my Daddy who has always been a classical music fan. I only just passed as I found theory really difficult (all the other 5 students in the class were grade 8 standard musicians and all I played was a recorder rather badly) I did it tho...and my Dad was reasonably pleased.

I didn't get into Gardening until we were married-- BTW--I know the dual carriage way you mean--it is like a Race track now ;D

I really enjoyed reading what you all have said! I like this thread Let's see as a child (and still now, though i don't have the time for it all) I enjoyed looking at nature while pretending I was painting or drawing it in my head, have imaginary conversations while looking in the mirror, draw, paint. Boring I know. Lol, there's gotta be more but I can't think of much else at the moment. These days I am teaching myself to sew, knit, crochet, cook, garden and read.

Thanks for pinging this up Melanie; I didnt know about it As a child I played the violin - not very well - collected stamps, knitting, sewing, painted (art) and had a little garden of my own - I always grew Virginia Stock and later on played hockey for ICI - as a teenager

As a child I was given the option of learning to play the Violin or the Piano --I chose the Piano but now wish I had taken up the Violin. I love to hear it played (properly) very soothing and easy to carry around-

LOL Ok obviously I already know how to read. I just caught that in my last post.
I love the violin.. I wish I knew how to play. One day I will get one though, my husband and I have talked about it and he almost bought me one before. Do you still play the piano?

Hello Mel-- Yes I do still play the piano but only in 'other' places. Our home is too small now to have one, So I bought the Keyboards ( with the keys with a similar size to a piano) I can 'store' this at home with no problem and enjoy playing it better than a piano.
