C3D - brilliant photograph!
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. The cat flap is an infra red one - the neighbours' is magnetic and we wanted one that we were certain only Poppy could use - it is her escape run.
Her confidence started to build again over the weekend but she rushed in on Sunday night from out the back somewhere but we are not sure what had happened - we could hear a dog barking though and our neighbour's light was on.
She goes out during the day quite happily - even this morning in the rain! - but is staying in at night, her choice. She has taken to attacking me when I walk through the lounge and hangs on to my legs - I have the scratches and teeth marks to prove it! So perhaps time is the thing and as she grows up she will stand up for herself more. She has learnt how to sneak past Molly (the main bully) without her realising so that is a start!
I'll keep you posted - failing that can I sign up the Marines cat please?

Sounds like she is learning though. I presume you are telling her off, when she is attacking you, though?

She has The witch but prefers to use the wicker laundry basket in our bedroom! You could be right about the height, her pole is shorter.
I haven't told her off because I don't want her to think she is doing wrong if she is fighting back - not that I fight her she just thinks it's good fun to torment me!

I presume you are telling her off, when she is attacking you, though? Not a good idea to tell a cat off Keith, which will only make matters worse as they do these things mostly to get attention. Has poppy got a scratch pole Myrtle - a tall one? Most on sale are very short and only really suitable for kittens IMO. Cats like to stretch out as much as possible when using one. You are only doing what the mother lion does with her cubs, though and it worked with that semi wild one I had as a kid. I do agree about the attention seeking though, but that link, £70!!!
