Tescos had these fruits on reduced the other day and I bought two, 20p each, it turns out they are pomegranates. I have cut into one and the seeds arent that sweet. If I keep the remaining portion of the opened fruit will it sweeten or rot? Will the unopened fruit ripen and sweeten and will it get softer as it ripens? As you can see I am clueless about these fruits. I tried passion fruit on the same basis and love the taste of them, I also have some sharon fruit ripening though that is a strange beast.

As a child I used to love them and used a pin! It could be my age, but weren't they only in the shops around bonfire time then - I always looked forward to seeing them in our local greengrocers? Sorry Sean, don't have any recipe ideas, just off reminiscing!

I just ate them seed and all.
Don't fancy them much nowadays - very messy.

Sorry Sean, don't have any recipe ideas, just off reminiscing! I think you are right. It's the dreaded globalisation that has made them all year round fruits. I'm not fond of them though - as Mick says - too messy.

Smallest loves them squeezed to make juice - messy but fun...I only do that when they are half price though It's amazing how much jioce comes out of a couple of very ripe pomegranates...
