It has a pH between 4.5 and 5.5 OK - but is that considered to be very acid or slightly acid?

That's a very useful chart Sleepy. It makes you realise why they say too much fruit juice rots your teeth...... The witch, the soil in bought, specialised acid composts will be fine for your bat plant I think - most acid loving plants need extra feeding after a while as the PH will alter with frequent watering - so your Bat plant will be quite happy. I'm sure it will tell you when it's not! This is a quite interesting link www.gardenwiseonline.ca/gw/sustainable-gardening/2004/03/01/acid-loving-plant-care

Great chart, it really gives you a good idea about what fits where in the ph scale. I think our soil's the same as the liquid drain cleaner.

Thanks for the ph chart Sleepy - I've copied it to my PC for future reference. I phoned T & M today to ask if JI ericaceous would be OK and was told it will be just fine. Thanks for all your help btw.
