There are a few PLANTS that I would like to look out for at this year's GW Live.....I thought that I'd start a thread so that I can add to it...and maybe some of you could suggest suppliers....or add your own wish lists to the thread? OK APART from loitering at 4P & her mate's show garden..... Hostas....I'm looking for one or two snail bait hostas to pop into the fern bed...maybe a couple of the small variegated ones. Melianthus Major...goodness knows where I'd put it...but I love big, architectural leaves...and this plant seems to fill the bill nicely Ferns... always visit Fernatix and always come away with at least one new fern.... ;D Foliage Begonia...there's one I'm on the lookout for, masoniana (iron cross begonia)..Dibleys Nursery MIGHT have one... I'll prolly have to add to this list..... ;D

Melianthis major is gorgeous isn't it? I'm sure you could fit it in somewhere Cheery..... I don't expect to have a lot of time or money to buy stuff but I would like to get another little Aeonium, Black Zorkoff...or however it's spelt. Sweetie and I were talking too much last year when we had a last look round the Flower Pavilion and forgot to go back and get them.... : I would also like to buy some Sanguisorba, the Meadow Burnet I think it's called as I cannot get the seeds to germinate and I do love it.... And obviously I would LOVE Pru's garden to get a Gold and for all the GW celeb's to come and have a chat - but I shan't say that out loud in case I jinx her......

I would like a Japanese Painted fern, some more Echeveria, several Cacti, depending on whats on show, maybe a Brugmansia, (of a different colour) I saw a lovely peachy coloured one, in someones garden recently. Id like some more British Natives too, there was a great stall last year, that I didnt get a chance to return to. I blame Sleepy for that. ;D Oh and some supplies for the pond, baskets.... and plants...... better stop there really : Im really looking forward to this. ;D

It is isn't it? I am forever barred from ferns - they just don't like my garden. I've tried several different ones and they've all died. Shame, they are beautiful plants I think.

I do NOT like artificial plants......a very odd idea, IMO. My garden is just far too sandy and well drained for ferns - too hot in summer too, even in the shade....still I can grow lots of other plants , can't I?

My SiL in Nottingham, has an artificial orchid and had us fooled, when we saw it a second time and it still being in flower!! Still I would rather have the real thing, wouldn't you? Just had a quick look and black spleenwort is ok in sandy conditions, not the most attractive of ferns though tbh. Why don't you speak to a fern person at GWL and ask for some advice, that is if you would really like one/some? My wishlist would be a large tree fern if possible. But knowing me, I will find lots of other things to buy. Maybe a grass or two. Saw a nice fuschia 'anita' at the g/c the other day, but it was a big expensive plant, so wouldn't mind finding a small one of them.

I have totally given up trying to get Sanguisorba officinalis seeds to germinate (3 years - no luck at all...) so I would like to try and buy some at GWLive.....it's a wild plant though so I doubt if I'll be able to find any...they don't seem to have much interest in wild plants there. I think there was only one display there last year......it's a lovely plant which looks gorgeous studded in a prairie type planting.....I sowed a batch of pretty grasses in the Spring so I could plant it like that - all the grass seeds germinated....... : www.floralimages.co.uk/psanguoffic1.htm

Well I couldn't find a Melianthus Major at all but I did manage to get a Rice Paper plant (Tetrapanax Papyrifer 'Rex') which is something I've wanted for YEARS! Some stalls had plants for £30+ but I found a nice man ('Todd's Botanix' in the exhibition halls) who let me have a lovely one for £12.50.
Keith...I saw plenty of tree ferns (quite big) going for £30....but I didn't get one.
I also bought:
Begonia Masoniana, Tree Spinach Sangusibora (just can't get that to grow from seed) Ricinus communis 'NZ Black' and a Fern from Fernatix 'Athyrium f.f. Plumosum Axminster
Lovely... ;D

I did Emsey ;D
It helps that I had a list...the only impulse buy really was the tree spinach....in the past I've gone home laden with lots of stuff that could easily be bought locally...this time I just wanted things I couldn't buy in a GC here or grow from seed.

Sounds like you had fun mooching around. I'm looking for a Fuchsia called "Hannah Louise" my daughters name. I bought one from there about 4/5 years ago but I've never found one since and can't remember the name of the nursery where I got it. I lost the one I had this year, it didn't make it through the winter

Im impatient, you know, the ones T&M supply are too young, so they are plain green, only on the second year do they get their gorgeous colouring Mick, I have room for more, the new shelving in the GH has made all the difference. Cacti grow on you after a while, especially after they show you what they can do in the flower department, ;D .....even if they do sometimes stink alarming!
