Ah, I like Muntjacs but I know round here they are considered a pest. They are sweet little things I think. They never get into my garden even though it has no fencing or anything..I think you're lucky to have seen it The witch!

In a way The witch, you are very lucky to have seen this deer, I never have, except on TV or dead on the road! They are very secretive, but have a fondness to herbs, if I remember correctly. Do you have many herbs in your garden? Keith

In the photo it's nibbling on my Golden Marguerites I've also got sage, chives and lemon balm in my garden at the moment Keith.

They sound pretty prolific to me, cute, I admit but I have an idea that people wont be so keen on them in a few years, ready to breed at eight months, and in season again a few days after the birth....

There are many thousands of them in the forests around here along with red, fallow and roe deers. In fact, it's more unusual NOT to see one driving through the forest roads as they are often seen standing by the road. They are much cannier or just quicker than other types I think as it's not very often you see one lying dead by the road - mostly they seem to be roe or fallow deer. They do make a most eerie "bark" sound which you can often hear at night. I like them.

Oh lucky you, The witch!!! In the garden at our old house out in the country something was nibbling the tops off of my Marguerites too, isn't that funny? It had to be a deer as I had put some tall chicken wire around them but the perpetrator must have been tall enough to bend down inside the cages and nibble the tops off. Could have been one of those!! Whoever it was was only interested in those plants, never noticed it going for anything else but it was Hell bent on the Marguerites.

Spotted he/she in the garden again this morning eating my Pinks!!
It did look odd though when it ran from one side of the garden to the other - Muntjac back legs are far too long for them!!

Can't believe I forgot to mention this, but a few weeks ago, I nearly had a Muntjac for dinner! I was driving home with Stephen in the dark, when ahead of us, I saw one of these deer. Luckily I have good brakes and that the car behind me had them as well! When I stopped, the deer (being in the middle of the road) just looked up (was only about 4/5ft away) and ran back into the woods. I have finally seen a LIVE one, yippee!! ;D Keith

Brilliant! ;D He /she probably had no idea of all the chaos they nearly caused! And that thanks to your brakes they're still around to frighten the life out of some more unsuspecting drivers.

Did you know, that if you hit & kill a deer, it is illegal for you to put it in your boot but the car behind can?
Myrtle's useless fact for today!
We go the woods locally just before dawn to track the deer - they are a wonderful sight.

She was the second car, well she was driving the second car and someone told us, we should have had the deer for dinner. You should have seen the damage to the front of her Clio! Keith

Keith Hubby spotted one at the side of the road when he was in a firm's car with a colleague, hubby wanted to put the deer in the boot but, after discussion, it was decided that they would do it on the way back, of course, by that time someone else had taken it! Missed out!
