According to my Observer's Book of Wild Animals, hedgehogs will eat.... ..... snails and slugs. Insects and worms, constitute the normal diet, but mice, rats, frogs, lizards and snakes are also taken. RATS........

I was amazed to see a fairly large hedgehog in the garden last night - eating from the birds ground feeder! Oh dear, it should be in hibernation now!

Oh dear, it should be in hibernation now! Exactly. The witch, There was an article on the BBC Breakfast this morning and they said that the hedgehogs had their second litter later this year due to the milder weather and they have not been able to find enough food so are underweight. They said that if one is out during the day, then it will be introuble and needs weighing and checking, and if they are out at night they may also be underwieght and need help. I think they said they need to be 500grams to get through the winter (but the hedgehog rescue centres would be able to confirm that)

I believe they like cat food The witch. I wonder if Tiggy Winkles would take it in or maybe it has a nest nearby.

Can you put some sort of a twiggy heap where they could shelter? that new garden program shows how maybe you could google and see what to do Im sure little William would love to know you had a hedgehog home in your backgarden or a little house with a hole just big enough for them to get through full of straw.

How lucky to have a hedgehog, we don't have any and I can't see us ever having them, unless they can polevault a six foot stone wall. Just keep an eye out for him The witch.
