I thought I'd report about the greenhouse debacle - just in case you were all worrying I went to school this morning to see what's actually been done and the Headmistress grabbed me straightaway to show me the building work. She was so excited I hadn't the heart to put a spanner in the works! And actually I think I can do something with it. I still think it's a silly place to put the GH but they have made me an area for a herb garden even though it will be fenced off.....and they have put a tap in so we don't have to mess about with watering cans in the classrooms. I WILL take out the very boring inappropriate shrubs and replant with something more interesting and attractive. I shall just have to plead ignorance if someone notices! The dipping ponds are filling up nicely and the water in two of them looks pretty clear. The third hasn't much in it yet apart from water. The plants in them have all grown well and the orchard has survived. I picked up half a dozen clean fallers and put them in the staffroom. I wonder if anybody ate them? I've arranged for a letter to go out to see how many children want to be involved and I am picking up a big bag of daffodil bulbs that Old Moley has got for me soon. The GH is going to be erected by the same man who did the groundwork, so that's saved me a horrendous job which I wasn't looking forward to at all. So I'm feeling pretty good now and really looking forward to getting stuck in with the kids! We have lots of things to do this next month or two.

That sounds a lot more positive dear! It was very nice of OM to give you the daffs too, hope you get away with the shrub removal too, I bet you do, most people are half soaked about plants... they probably wont remember what was there! Im glad you dont have to do the mechano greenhouse project too, youre not wrong, it is horrendous!

This silly proboard won't let me write some other long forgotten messageboard...it keeps putting GAWD! Ooeer... Are we not allowed to mention that other board then?? It's obviously been told not to write that! Anyway, yes, things are OK again. It's not quite as I wanted it but never mind. When things go wrong and the GH is damaged/vandalised etc I can loftily say it wasn't my idea to put it there.......we have 4 raised beds to put up too. I was going to use the surplus soil, from the hard landscaping I'd planned, to fill them but there isn't any now. Have you any idea how much it costs to buy top soil? LOTS! Ah well...we'll find a way...a bucket a day...

Evening Sleepy. Everything okley dokley? Not too bad thanks My only complaint in life is an aching shoulder. It aches when I sit, it aches worse when trying to go to sleep, whichever way I lie. Still, not a lot to have to complain about, eh? How's you?

I feel fine, thank you. I'm getting enthused about gardening club again now after worrying all summer it was all going wrong....I want the kids to be doing things now. And I have the wild flower pligs to replant and all Karen's foxgloves which are all very healthy.

Not yet. They only started this afternoon...the little beds with the concrete piers are my herb and sensory plant beds prolly and there is a nice space for lots of tubs too next Spring. I want a cacti area if possible in the GH as they are so interesting for the kids. And I noticed one of my new apple trees has blossom opening too...oooer.........I CANNOT wait! High as a kite, she is!

It's being glazed with polycarbonate panels for safety, Keith.

It's being glazed with polycarbonate panels for safety, Keith. Thought that would be the best, considering the situation. Keith

Sooooo glad I'm not having to put the GH up as the nice blokes doing it are finding it quite tricky getting the glazing in (and they've got willies!) I would have been suicidal by now trying to do it alone...........still it's looking good. Not that many people appear to be noticing...I stood there this morning watching everyone walk past it and only about 3 people even commented on the fact that it's there, never mind how interesting/exciting/educationally important it's going to be......I despair, I really do. What do I have to do to get these people to show any enthusiasm at all............? This is a school with 160 children on its roll.....about 1% of whose parents are showing any interest at all.... (I'm rubbish at maths!)

bloomin ingrates! I'd be tapping on the poloywatsit, demanding entry if it was Holly's school. I wander who does the gardening there? They have got it really nice, there's even a willow igloo/cave in the reception playground.

It's Wednesday - it's the first Gardening Club after school today - let's hope it stops raining. If anyone is interested (and I don't think many people are actually but never mind) Over the next few weeks we are going to be building the staging for the greenhouse, weeding the adventure playground and the new flower beds, planting daffodil bulbs, having a go at installing the water butt and planting the wild flowers plugs and Karen's Foxgloves in the wild garden. I'm hoping to spend some time arranging all the pots and stuff I have accumulated at home in the GH plus we have the four raised beds to build and fill (somehow...). And I have some plants to add to the third dipping pond. There is some work still to be done to the ramp and I have to build the pallet wildlife tower too - I must try and gather some material to make some different habitats. Then there is the camera nestbox I have to try and install and all those little things that need doing to make a really fully functioning wild garden. Next month is the great Chestnut leaf clear up - there are several huge trees in the playground and lots of conkers everywhere, so that'll be fun. We usually fill two dustbins with conkers and have a competition. Shall we try and grow some trees from them? I can't decide whether to sow some seeds to keep in the GH over winter or not - it will involve me doing an awful lot of watering. Lots of plans and only 2/3 adults to help - none of whom are keen gardeners.......why do I do this to myself? I have more than enough to get on with in my garden.......... I wish, sometimes, that there was at least one more keen gardener to take charge of some of it...ho hum.

Maybe then there would be too many cooks 4P - the more gardeners the more the conflicting views how to go about things. It's YOUR project and I would keep it that way!!!! A few more pairs of hands belonging to people who won't try to take over wouldn't go amiss though, by the sound of it.There does sound a lot to do though - a labour of love I think. It sounds and looks GREAT. Playing conkers - isn't it banned nowadays?

I see next year's Springwatch is going to be held there!! Yes, grow some conker trees, we did and it's great fun too. Keep us posted! Keith

I'd love too! But I'd also like to make some hazel tripods, build a willow tunnel, weave some hedge baskets, make a set of compost bins, grow veggies on an allotment area, build a bird feeding restaurant, make jam and preserves from hedgrow fruits, decorate tiles for a path, make wreaths for Christmas, etc etc etc........the list is endless but they are all possibilites at some future date

I'm exhausted just reading your list 4P I know, I thought that too and she still has her own garden to deal with. Hopefully she will get some help though with the school one! 4P, did you know what you had let yourself into, with this project or is it growing by the day? Keith
