OK........................................ But this time I shall try and get the teachers 'on board'...............that was the big mistake I made. I assumed they were all as keen as me but they weren't........but this time there really IS a teacher who is really into it all so that's a much better start! It wasn't you who was feeble, you were the strong one - but use it as a learning curve (we are neve too old to learn!!) and this time you have others who are enthusiastic and you have started on the right foot by involving them! Well done! Can't wait for photographs!

You have a happy daughter and some like-minded teachers, it's all going right, at last! It really sounds as if all your efforts will be rewarded here 4P with interested children and enthusiastic staff, and not overlooked by a lot of can't-be-bothered, disinterested people who bring everything down. Hopefully the thick pillocks haven't got the same free rein at the new school......

I hope it all goes well 4P - you have so much enthusiasm - it is catching Having interested teachers must help too! I really admire what you are doing and I say 'More power to your elbow'- if that's the right saying I am sure you will be successful ;D

I had a really encouraging meeting at school with the 'Eco' teacher this afternoon - MrB. He's really keen on all this stuff but doesn't seem to be a very experienced gardener so I am in charge...... he says..... : He was full of enthusiasm for all the ideas I outlined and is really keen on me applying for a grant to get it funded. So that's my next job - filling in another form and costing everything... There is a lot less room but that doesn't matter - there are already lots of different habitats which just need a bit of enhancing and the pond is already pretty good I think. MrB says all the staff are very keen to get the children outside for environmental work so it already looks better... And coincidentally, the really nice reception teacher who was the only one who was keen at the last school, and who left at the end of the summer, is at this school supply teaching for a term! I had a good chat with him and he says he will support me in the staffroom. So it's all good atm

Could you get them to fund some bulbs in pots for this Autumn maybe, Karen? The kiddies love that...a huge sack of daffodil bulbs is reasonably cheap

Thought of you this morning whilst watching BBC Breakfast - they had a feature on a primary school that has teamed up with the allotment growers. The children have lessons at the allotment given by the allotment holders - mainly pensioners - and also lessons continue in the classroom again helped by the allotment holders. Fantastic idea - and it has become part of their curriculum and is being pushed to other schools by the council. It teaches the children about gardening and food, helps them to interact with the pensioners and helps the pensioners feel wanted. Someone with sense there obviously

That's good to hear! I suggested that the school got an allotment on the site which is on a few yards down the road but the teacher wasn't too keen - too much to organise I expect, which I can understand. But I haven't given up on it..........I shall see if it's on the Beeb site I think - thanks Myrtle!
Rats! I can't find it - I don't suppose you remember which council it was, do you Myrtle?

Isn't that brilliant?? Thanks FC - I think these people are very inspiring, don't you? They do an amazing job but why can't the elected people who run our communities think of initiatives like that I wonder??

Thanks Myrtle and Keith - I'm going to email both those links to my Eco teacher! Gardening Club was really good btw. The teacher left it to me to run the group (about 20 - eek!) and just hovered about so we weeded the raised bed and found some potatoes and lots of bugs. Then started weeding a flower bed and ended up making grass knots to dry into nests for the wildlife tower. The children all loved it and the Head came to see what was going on too - he's going to get some bluebells and hyacinths for us to plant. I have a much better 'vibe' about this club - it already feels like it's got some purpose and support.
