How horrible that must have been. Problem is, cats wander - it's very scarey to think where they might end up and what they might decide to make a meal out of.

I saw a lovely cat run over yesterday, when I took the kids to school. When I say run over, it was laying on the path by the road, so probably got hit and landed there. It wasn't there when I went back later in the day. I would have hated being the owner finding the body, I saw a lady walking past and she looked like she was close to throwing up!!

awww what a shame such a cutie. I alawys thought cats wouldn't eat poison, that they 'knew' when to avoid bad food

I would've thought the same, Emsey. IThe poison must have been well disguised - horrible.

They're lovely cats, The witch - what a shame. The other one - is that the one you took the video of under the glass table?

It worries me that my cats will suffer the same fate, they hunt all the time and the easiest prey to catch would be a poisoned rat or mouse. I just have to pray they are well fed enough not to actually eat what they kill.

What a shame!!They're such beautiful cats. I wonder who it was with that video then? I was so sure it was yours.......someone was trailing something on top of a glass coffee table and the cat was going bonkers trying to get it from under the table....oh well, never mind!!!!

I think that's the crux of the matter, that the people putting down the poison do so responsibly and consider who else might find it.

Oh The witch. Your kitty was a real dear! Thanks for making this a thread. I know mice and rats can be a problem but the poison they ingest can affect so many others. Mouse or rat has a belly full of poison and is weakened. They are easier prey for cats, dogs, owls, hawks .... If the mouse is fed to the chicks the whole nest could be lost. Most people only consider their immediate problem and they see they have less mice. They don't see a nest of dead chicks or the dog that died along a road side ditch or at the vets. The lady who's kitty died came in this afternoon with her daughter to thank me for trying to help Dusty. We all had a good cry over the whole hopeless situation. The neighbour lady who was the source of the poison seemed to not really care that Dusty had died. Horrible! Another Toxic Neighbour!!!

This is always a worry to me - which is why it took years for us to decide that we had to use rat bait - the numbers were just too great, and we have young children playing in the garden all the time. Although we had shot them with the air rifle, there were just too many. I know it's horrible but at least that way they don't suffer. My OH always tries to put the poison actually in the rat tunnels or in a covered trap as near to them as possible. My cats have never been affected, and I haven't heard of any others either. I'm afraid it's the traffic thundering along at high speeds which account for more cat deaths.... Unfortunately the farmer next door has a huge barn at the bottom of the garden which is teeming with rats - occasionally he has a campaign of poisoning, I just have to hope he is responsible too as all my cats spend time in there...... I do NOT like using poison. If there was a better way.....and I'm not allowed a Jack Russell because of the babies.....

My parents owned two jack russels when I was a kid, one was a little ******, with a right chip on his shoulder called rocky, and then we had Sidney, years later, he was such a great dog! Such a funny, loving little chap!
