Why is red salmon so much more expensive than pink salmon? Does anyone know? Or does everyone know apart from me.

I'd like to know too. I never buy pink salmon, I always go for red, I think 'cause my mom always bought red, I dont have it very often cos of the price, may as well pay the extra and get salmon fillets.

Thanks Sweetleaf and The witch - two really good sites. We always buy pink as it's a lot cheaper but delicious all the same. A big tin does a few rounds of sandwiches and what's left over goes into Fisherman's pie with whatever else is to hand, very yummy! I'm going to have to give Red a go soon though - it's always winking at me on the shelf..... Thanks again!

Like emseypop, I always buy red because my mom did. I didn't realise they were two different species!
I tend to buy the red when it is on special offer - we either have none in the cupboard or six tins! I look for offers when I fetch the milk for the office from Morrisons and they have buy one get one free sometimes and usually the large tin (it was a man who pointed this offer out to me!). Next time it is on I'll let you know ladies.
