I made pancakes last night, or should I say, a big pile of fried stuff that even the chickens wouldn't touch, to add insult to injury! I'm sure the batter was fine but it's all in the technique I think. I probably made a mental note from last year on the do's and don't's but that was a year ago. They stuck to the pan, when trying to unstick them they all broke up, I put too much batter in at one go, too little batter in, too much oil, NOTHING worked! And ironically the only real good one was the first one! I will practise before next year. There was this 'silence' in my household while I was trying to avert this crisis and everyone was very kind...... In the end OH took over and produced 2 sort of OK-looking but very greasy ones and by that time the kids were full, or at least that's what they said. I felt dreadful - I WILL get them right for next year......

never mind Mrsb you are not alone. Nothing narks me more than disasters in the kitchen and they happen to me a lot. This years pancakes were quite good, they stuck to the spatula instead of the pan, they looked ok but they were cold, the ones 'waiting' on a plate while I cooked the others got cold, as I had to open the back door to let the smoke out!

Couldn't you keep them in the oven under a pilot heat?

These ones stuck to the spatula too. : I used in total 2 frying pans, a wok and 3 spatulas to create a pile of greasy burnt offerings! I was wondering the same Emsey - how do you create a whole pile of them so everyone can eat together, each one took so long with everyone waiting around, listening to all this cursing coming out of the kitchen. I remember lots of smoke last year but I think there were OK, but whatever the mental note was I made last year about what to do right next time, it was completely forgotten. Glad yours were OK though. Thanks Sleepy, I can laugh about it too now. ;D

Never mind Debbie, it happens to us all....at least your family were kind. My regular disasters are met with a disdainful look and a deep sigh....... ..and I reckon you should practise NOW! At home, in the quiet and without any audience. Then you can eat the whole delicious lot without anyone being any the wiser too.......lemon juice is so good for you too.....

That's just so naughty, and devious, and TEMPTING..... And of course, they'll come out fine. And of course, when I try to reconstruct the same method with everyone waiting.....

It's the defeatist's way out but the perfect answer! Thanks The witch - now if I could only keep the kitchen door shut, put some oil in the pan and heat it up to reconstruct the cooking smell while I'm warming the ready made ones up - perfect! Just look what Mummy made...... ;D
