1 tspoon pickling spice 8oz onions 1/2 pint malt vinegar 8 oz apples 2lb green or red toms 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 rounded teaspoon mustard powder. 1/2 tsp. ginger 8os sultanas. 8oz sugar.
put pickling spices into piece of muslin. Put the finely chopped onion in a large saucepan and simmer gently till nearly soft.Add the peeled,cored and chopped Apples, sliced skinned tomatoes ( I dont skin the green ones) spices and salt .Simmer till soft stirring from time to time. Add the remainder of the vinegar and the sugar. When the sugar has dissolved boil steadily until the chutney is the consistency of jam. Remove the spices , pour the chutney into warm jars and seal down at once. Makes about 4 lbs.
