Hi Sweetie... ;D At the mo my GH is stuffed with tender plants. Bananas, tea tree, tree fern, alpine pots (they get too wet outside), some cuttings (boxus, passionflower and baby alpines) 2 baby persian silk trees and 2 almost-ready-for-planting box balls.
In the summer I use the GH for cucumbers, plum tomatoes, strawberries in pots, peppers, and this year I'm having a go at melons.
;D

Keep me informed on the melons wont you? One of the most difficult things to grow in Britain according to Bob Flowerdew (my hero) ;D Id love you to prove him wrong though!

I have two greenhouses a bit like this - i33.photobucket.com/albums/d75/The witch-in-Norfolk/Bits%20and%20bobs/mini.jpg[/IMG] I use them for bringing on my plug plants, raising a few seedlings and then each year I grown 3 tom plants in each. ;D

I wad thinking of trying to construct one like that, out of the remains of my plastic one, the bits that arent twisted anyway! There should be enough of the roof stuff to make a decent sized cold frame, too.

I grow salad stuff, early sweetcorn (for the rats), tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, melons, strawberries and cucumbers in my PT and use it to overwinter all the plants I haven't sold. Melons are quite easy but they need a long growing season and lots of water. I have a GH too which is for seeds and tender herbs for selling. I also overwinter my olive and citrus trees in there usually too. This year I'm leaving them outside as they got covered in sooty mould. I hope they survive but I am increasingly only sticking with hardy stuff as I never get time to go and ventilate properly in winter. Also my chickens love to stay in the PT in winter which is good for them and my soil.

I like that idea! Are there any foxes around though? We had 4 ducks at home for the eggs and a fox kept picking them off....... the male was a wuss, he went last after all his wives. Do your chickens lay in the winter? The ducks didnt. The soil must be really fertile, as well....... is it very much warmer in the PT then? I think of it as a transparent tent and Ive always been cold in tents.

The PT is very warm usually and even in winter stays quite cosy. It gets swelteringly hot in summer. My girls don't lay in winter but they do a grand job picking over the soil and fertilising it.

My greenhouse is used for overwintering fuchsias, felicia, clematis seiboldii, agave, tender passionflower, etc. I also bung my potted dahlias in there to dry out, then they go into my mini greenhouses so's I've got a bit of space to work in. I raise most of my early seeds in there and then grow tomatoes and cucumbers during the summer. Yesterday, I planted up some seeds in there but the only ones I've left in there are my sweetpeas. The others are on the windowsill in the house where it's a bit warmer.

Of course not. The tractor stays in the tractor shed and besides, Dobbin doesn't get on with it.

How about getting a PC at home for your own use Mick? You could catalogue your cacti on it

I know - but there always seems to be something more important to spend my money on. However, I think the time is coming.

They are expensive arent they I bought my first one second-hand, it cost £200 and I had no printer no speakers and the biggest ugliest screen ever, but it go me on-line and that was the most important thing I thought I would be satisfied with it but it had the brain of a calculator... it filled up in no time!.......I named it the slug

There are a lot of good buys out there at the mo. Woolies were doing a pretty good computer package recently for about £400. It cost me that last year just to upgrade mine!

Did Bob Flowerdew really say that about melons? I didn't know they were tricky so have had no problems with them! Obviously they won't even germinate now.....

We got ours from Dell, OH chose what speck and everything we needed, cost about £500 just over a year ago. You can also choose the buy now pay later option. - gives you time to put a bit aside each month but have the computer now.
Our first computer was out of the ark it was the old company computer with no brain - Rob used to say it was a toaster until he put all the info on it. and it was as slow as anything.
