Well, would you Adam and Eve it.
The pond has become considerably overgrown so I reduced the weed by 3/4 yesterday. Within an hour there were 2 big frogs perched on what was left. That's the first time I have seen them in months. I must have stirred them up!

Maybe reducing the weed on my pond would have the same effect, time to put it to the test , well, as soon as I empty the compost bin....tomorrow, I think.

We heard some croaking a couple of days ago, in our gazebo, nowhere near the pond, and came across another one one when emptying the compost bin the other day. They're all still around it seems.

As you know, it rained all day yesterday. Well it did here! When we got back from our daily dog walk at 8.45ish last night, there was a frog, 'sheltering from the showers' in our bit by the front door! Or was it just guarding our house, while we went out? Come nearer and I will croak at you!! Keith

I keep coming across little toads and frogs still in my garden. I have lost count of the number of times I have tipped one out of the goats food bowls or rescued one that's got stuck in their water bucket. I think they must be looking for warm winter headquarters and the goats shed looks tempting. I have never seen so many hereabouts before. They shouldn't stay in there though...the rats will be back soon......I can't cope with all this leaping and hopping and scuttling wildlife.

I imagine so - I wonder what they require for winter survival - if we get back to the long hot summers forecast, it's not a good prospect for them is it? Poor things.

I found this little chap in the garden yesterday. I don't have a pond anymore, just a sunken container with a couple of pond plants in.

He's slightly bigger than the one I had. I wonder if they are palmate newts or common newts? I'm finding it really hard to ID as none of the pictures I found on google really look like my little feller....your's looks a similar golden colour, although not as bright. Are you a newt expert perchance? I'd like to know what sort they are....

I'm no expert I'm afraid, we had quite a few when we had the pond. I always assumed they are just common newts.
