Despite it being moving water in my water feature, the water keeps going green. I've been putting food colouring in to help slow the development of algae, but it fades quickly in the sun. Can anyone suggest a more long-term environmentally-friendly alternative?

It's one of those cascade ones - a big bowl at the bottom with three smaller bowls - the top bowl spills into the next one down, then the lowest one, and finally into the large bowl which has a pump.

There are chemicals you can put in these features that keep them clean, it is also designed for birdbaths if I remember correctly. I have some somewhere and if I can find it, I will let you know its name.

Found it, it is called Fountain Clear by Biotal. It says Prevents algae and green water, safe for fish, birds and wildlife.

Why "Oh dear" Sleepy? Oh that sounds like good stuff Madon - will it be safe for my cat to drink? She thinks the water feature is her own personal water bowl!!! :

She thinks the water feature is her own personal water bowl!!! : I expect so, cats can be classed as wildlife and my dog drinks out of the birdbath with no problems, even though the water doesn't last long, with Souki around, so hardly put it in now. Keith Edit. Just checked the first web site I gave you. It says safe with pets!!

I've placed my order! Cheers Madon - I'll let you know how I get on! Px Crikey that was quick!! Yes it is good stuff, probably why it is expensive! I have only used it in birdbaths, but it worked really well. Direction are 25ml initially then same again every two weeks in growing season, then every 4 weeks at other times. So the 250mls does you a while. Keith
