You could send him there for the time being with a condition that he comes home if ever he becomes too high maintenance for them? .........Or you could hang on in the hope that a mate turns up to keep him happy

Hi Sweetleaf and thank you for taking the time to reply! I dunno if just getting a mate would make him happy. I might have two birds that are unhappy in captivity. Then what to do if they have little ones? LOL! OMG! I do tend to look for trouble which does not exist don't I? ~~~~> Any way .... We did call the museum last week and asked if we could allow him to "holiday" at their facility and we would care for him if any medical conditions occur. Still no call back. ? The one *really* nice thing would be that the avian specialist we have been seeing also is the veterinarian in charge of the birds in their collection. I think I'll contact him too and see if somehow we could be reassured that the Cardinal would NOT be destroyed without our OK if that question should ever arise. Is it a wonder I give myself migraines? LOL!!! C3D

A Cardinal Update The Cardinal has been doing well since he came to stay with us. He was to have a recheck around this time to see if his injured eye had signs of glaucoma, or an increased pressure in his eye. Today we went to the avian specialist. The Cardinal has put on good weight and has very good muscle mass and seems in excellent condition. Best news is he can see! There was a partially detached retina and lots of fibrin strands and clots in his eye about 3 months ago when the ophthalmologist had said he is "blind in his left eye and the retina is shredded." Today his left eye looks and reacts identical to the right eye! Both the avian vet and ophthalmologist said they have never seen such a complete recovery from so severe trauma. He is releasable with their blessings. I need to check our weather forecast to make sure he's got at least 3 days of nice weather after he's out on his own. Oooooooooooooooooo! This is such unexpected great news! WoooooooooHooooooooo!
